What is the Engineer in Residence Program?

Rube-Goldberg Machine

The Engineer-in-Residence (EIR) program is a unique and innovative educational program that sends engineers into schools across Ontario, delivering free, hands-on programming that engages students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The core program matches a volunteer engineer with an elementary or high school in their area for the entire school year. The emphasis on flexibility and curriculums links guide our EIRs as they work with teachers, administrators and students to develop activities, visits and presentations that reflect the school’s unique needs as well as the engineer’s own schedule and strengths.

EIR is an initiative of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), the body that licenses professional engineers, and regulates and sets standards for the engineering profession in Ontario.
