Join the EIR Network

To apply to join the Engineer-In-Residence Network, please complete the following web-based form or download and print the PDF version.

Who is in the EIR Network?

EIR Network members are engineers and other technical experts who want to share their expertise with teachers and students. Engineers who don't have time to volunteer as an EIR can be members of the EIR Network, as well as engineers who have applied to be an EIR but are waiting for a school. Scientists, mathematicians, technologists, technicians and other specialists who regularly work with engineers in their job can also be members of the EIR Network.

The goal of the EIR Network is to provide support to Engineers-in-Residence who are volunteering in schools, and to teachers and students. EIR Network members can:

  • Give a presentation at an EIR school as an invited guest of the EIR
  • Work as a volunteer consultant to students on an EIR-directed project
  • Act as an on-line resource to EIRs, teachers and/or students
  • Serve as a judge for a school competition (e.g. design challenge, solar car race, robotic competition).
By completing this application, you are registering to become a member of the EIR Network. The information you provide will be used by the EIR Program Office to ensure the best possible use of your volunteer time.

Volunteer Reference Check

The EIR program required that all volunteers working with children (in person or on-line) undergo a basic police check. Reference checks are conducted by your local municipal police force. In some jurisdictions, all police stations provide the service, while in others it is available only in the large ones. A phone call to any station or the community relations office will give you the locations. You must go in person, and you will need two pieces of identification.
